Might Have Been.
A gentleman of the writer's acquaintance is under the impression that it is sometimes a &ood thing to be lacking in courage. He tells a story in illustration of Ibis. A fair and buxom widow whom he had known in her early unmarried days was bereft of her third husband.
He called upon her one morning, wlien lie was in the town whero she lived, and on his expressing his sympathy with her in her most recent loss, she suggested that they might together visit tho cemetery where her dear ones were laid. The gentleman at once agreed, and together they set out for the place of interment. After contemplating the three graves in mournful silence, she turned her heavy eyes to her companion, and murmured —
"Ah, if you had only had a little more courage, you might have been in that row. tc-o !"
