DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB.
The Dunedin Burns Club held its monthly meeting in the Choral Hall on the 15th, when, the wet evening Dotwithsta/nding, there was a very large attendance of members. A wellarranged programme of song, recitation, and music earned the warmest plaudits, every item meeting with a reception that must have been very gratifying to the performers. Encores were freely demanded and generously responded to. The entertainment opened with bagpipe music by the club's pipers, after which the president (Mr J. Arkle) made a brief speech. Tho remainder of the programme was as fol-lows-—Orcliestial selection, "Cottar's Saturday Night," Hutton Orchestra ; song, " Loch Lomond," Mr Kennard , song, "Willies gane to Melville Ci«t!e, ' Miss I\y Bircliall; recitation, " The Execution of Montiose," Miss Finey ; cornet solo, " Lost chord" (with orchestial acconipammexit), Mr C. A. Hutton; song,

Nordan ; pait song, " Doou the bum, Davie, lad,' 1 chon ; orchestral selection, " Scotch airs,'' Hutton Orchestra. The Rev. J. Chisholm gave an liiTeiesting address on " The Poets ot Eaily Otago,' mentioning some fi'inihar names, and quoting largely fiom the works oi the nqets oi the eaily days. At the
conclusion of the programme Mr W. Burnett proposed a vote of thaaks to the Rev. Mr Chisholm and the performeis for their efforts, the motion bemg caniecl by hearty acclamation. The evening vas brought to a close with an enjoyable hour's dance.
! A gvesshig competition for dredge returns m connection with the Church cf England bazaar, held last week at Clyde, was won. by Mr J Young, of C'.yde, Mr Poynter and Mr E. Bellamy, of Alexandra, being 1 . second and third respectively.
