AMERICA v. GREAT BRITAIN.
An international team match betweea players representing the Old and INFsw Worlds hag been practically fixed for the spring of next year in Boston. The correspondence has been conducted between Frank A. Fitzpatrick, of Boston, as representing a joint committee of the New England Association and the Boston Checker Club, and Alex. Bry^on, of the Draughts World, Glasgow, who was asked to consult the Scottish and English Draughts Associations.
In tho formal challenge it is suggested that the match or tournament be played m the city of Boston, at such time as may be mutually acceptable to all parties concerned, and, in consideration of the fact that the English and Scottish players have to make an ocean voyage, and absent themselves from business for a much longer period than the American players, and foi other considerations, we, representing the American players, contract for and pay ail bills incidental to the playing of the match, said bills also to include the travelling expenses of all the foreign players from the time of leaving homo chore v itil they arrive at home shore agair. The American committee also states that, wishing to set itself right with the English and Scottish Draughts Associations, this invitation to visit and play with. Americans is prompted by a desire for a. closer acquaintance with players of tha Old Land, and incidentally to advance tho interests of the game mutually leved s« well.
Tho following are the members of the American committee: — George W. Dearborn (chairman), A. J. Kirby (president N.E. Association), W. G. Hill. Edward Hanvin, D.D.S. (treasurer), Frank A. Fitzpatrick (secretary), Samuel C-ro-vei-, A. J. Heffner, Chas. Übel, Ernest Williams (X.1.C.P.), Joseph J. Lannin, George H. Dean (president Boston C.C.). and H. L. Pigeon. The Scottish executive are represented by Dr Garey, J.P. (convener), Messrs James Ferric, J. W. Hillhouse, James Moir, and Alex. Bryson (secretary). In tho English Association it has been moved, seconded, and carried that the scheme of the New England Checker Association re the American match be accepted, and they sanctioned the proposal, and will go hand in hand with their Scotch brethren in the movement.
