OTAGO WITNESS SOLVERS TORENAMET.

The chess editor of the Otago "Witness has pleasure m announcing a Problem-solvers' Tourney, for which cash prizes of £5, £1 Is, and 10s 6d will be offered. The competition will commence with the problems published in the Otago Witness of July 20, and end with those appearing in the issue of July 19, 1905. Every week there will be published a tw o-mova and a three-move problem. Two marks will ba awarded to eveiy solver of a Iwo-movo and four marks to every solver of a three-move problem. Pointing out a double solution or iiny problem, or that it is not solvable, will count as equal to a solution, and when tho composer's solution and a second solution are both pointed out double marks wnl be awarded. Solvers, will be called upon to send in the key move only, and the conditions imposed are: (1) Each solver must cut the problems out of the Olago Witness and forward the clippirss, wilh solutions, to the "Ohess Editor, Otago Witness, Dunedin." (2) The solutions must reach the editor prior to their publication in this coiumn. Publication of solutions will be purposely delayed six weeks to enable this to be done. (3) If there pre less than 50 competitors m the arena within four weeks of the commencement of the competition the offer of piizes will be withdrawn, and the tourney annulled. (I) The right of adding to or increasing the prizes is reserved.
