THE ALLEGED ROUGH PLAY AT WANGANUI.
WANGANUI, June 19. On Saturday evening the Management Oc.mmittee of tho Wanganui Rugby Union held an inquiry extending over three and a-half hours into the alleged rough play in the Kaierau-Pirates match on June 4-. The committee decided to consider the e\id«noe at a meeting next Friday. The witnesses were \ina-nimously of opinion that the report of the play was an exaggeration. The result of the match would give either team a lead for the cup, therefore the players were more than usually anxious ; bul it was contended that there was no undue rough play — in fact the teams did not know they had taken part in " a sanguinary battle " iinbil informed by tho r.owspapqr. The acidents whioh occurred were attributed to slippery ground, which prevented the men keeping their feet when endeavouring to take the ball. The committee decided to adjourn tha inquiry till ne-xt Friday.
