OTAGO FARMERS' CO-OPERATIVE NEW HORSE BAZAAR.

The Otago Fanners' Co-operative Association, finding its business increasing considerably of late, has shown commeoidable enterprise in extending its premises so" as to provide a horse bazaar and also additional storage accommodation, in order that operations may b& carried on. on a more extensive scalo in future. The new portion of its building, which extends from Crawford street right through to Vogel street, has v. length of 145tt and a width of 70ft, and the horse bazaar will therefore be a commodious structure, providing ample space for the requirements of the association. The walls, which are buiJfc of brick, are about 17ft -high, and the roof is well proAided with skylights, to ensure the buildingbeing adequately lighted. Part of the row premises, an area measuring 145 ft by about 30ft, is divided into two storeys, the upper portion of which will be utilised as an addition to the wool room, the present storage accommodation being insufficient. A number of stalls will be erected for the horses, and a right-of-way will be left between the horses' heads and th© -wall, so that buyers may inspect the animals' mouths without ha\ing to approach them from the ypar — an advantage that will be appreciated if tbs horses happen to be fractious. Accommodation in the shape of a yard or pen will also be provided for colts. A new depaiture, and one that, will no doubt be highly appreciated by buyers, will be made by th© erection of seating accommodation, in the form of an amphitheatre, so that those who aro not specially interested in the sale of any particular aninul may enjoy a rest. A railway siding run? into the store, and all trucks can be loaded or unloaded under cover, pII risk of injury by wet 'being avoided thereby. The horse' bazaar will b» opened on Saturday, 25th inst., and sales will thereafter be held at weekly intervals. The plans for the building were dsuwii up

by Mr Forrest, architect, and the work is being carried out by Messrs Crawford and Watson. When everything is finished the premises should be admirably suited for the purposes to which they are to be devoted, a-nd the horse bazaar will probably be on-a of the most serviceable, of its kind v in the colony.

A Wanganui paper states that there are several mills afc work in the bush between; JJataroa. and Utiku, from which some of the finest totara ever milled is being cut. The r Alexandra Herald says the Naseby butchers having found that owing to the high price of meat and other cause 3 there is "not sufficient business in Naseby for three- of them, by an agreement between thomse-hes -on© shop has closed up.
