The TALK of the WORLD. Potatoes at £2,240 per ton. [The World=Famed 4 M — — » »k»i net m New Dissase-Reslsfing Ufe White itad Potato THE MOST DISEASE-RESISTING, WEATHER-DEFYING AND PROFITABLE POT AT(T EVER SENT OUT. NEVER within living memory has there been such a stir in the potato world as that caused by the advent of the " Northkrn Star " nor has any of this humble race of vegetables ever attained to such notoriety. The cropping powers ot this variety are almost incredible, and we annex a few particulars of what it is capable of doing, and results in our own province have fully corroborated what others say of it. An excessively wet season brings prominently home to potato-growers the great necessity of planting strong - constitutioned, disease - resisting potatoes, and the extraordinary results obtained by growers throughout the Home Country justify us in recommending all growers to plant some of the "Northern Star." "NORTHERN STAR" POTATO CROPS WELL LOOKS WELL KEEPS WELL COOKS WELL What Mr. FINLAY (the raiser) says of "Northern Star," and from whom we had our Stock Supply:— "In my eai'eev as a raiser of new varieties of Potatoes, I think it will be generally conceded that I have .introduced a few that have made a reputation. But of all that I have sent out no one so nearly approaches my ideal Potato as this, and that I have judged it fairly is, I think, borne out by its reception by growers generally, the high place it has attained in their estimation, the phenomenal demand, and the high level of prices paid for seed in the spring of this year (1903). I offered it in August, 1902, at 5s per lb. The demand was such that I was obliged to raise my price from time to time, and finished at 203. pev 11?. The buyers were chiefly those who' had tried it in 1902. It is a heavy cropper, of fine quality, and the most disease-resisting Und weather-defying Potato I have ever known." ITS CROPPING POWERS. A Home grower writes .-—'Every lb. of "Northern Star" Potatoes produced on an average fully 130-lbs. Another writes .-—From 1 lb. "Northern Star" I had 135 lbs. What a wonderful potato this is ! Another writes :— From 2 lbs. of " Northern Star" I have got 3 cwt. Another lorites :— What an extraordinary grand potato is '-'Northern Star"'! From the 14 lbs. I got from you we have lifted fully 13 CAvt. Another writes .— From 2 lbs. "Northern Star" I have obtained nearly 5 cwt. Numerous correspondents, writing in the press, bear similar testimony. One in particular, Mr. J. "Sherlock, writing in the Gardeners^ Chronicle of 3rd October, 1903, says that from 2 lbs. of " Northern Star " he lifted 420 lbs. In Otago a crop just lifted has yielded nearly 1,100 lbs. from only 7 lbs. planted. The "Northern Star" novi offered were grown for us from the true stock imported direct by us from the raiser, and are therefore true to name. ft** We can supply only lib.
