OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Otago Land Board was held on Wednesdaj, and was attended by Messrs D. Barron (Commissioner of Crown Lands), John Duncan, William Dallas, and H. H. Kirkpatrick. Ranger Mackenzie forwarded an application from Mathew Fitzpatrick for a grazing license over about 4b acres fronting section 81, block IV, Snotover district. — Report received ; license granted at a rental of 5s per annum.

Ranger O'Neill forwarded a further report on sections 1, 2, 8, 9, 19, and 26,, block VIII, Tautuku district, held under occupation-with-right-of-purchase license by G. J. W. Clarke. — Held over.

Ranger Mackenzie reported on the application by Charles Waide, sen., for an occupation-with-right-of-purchase license over section 7, block XII, Tarras district.— Application granted; capital value 15s per acre. A letter from Cutten and Hjorring, on behalf of Gavin Pollock, with reference to the area of 100 ocres in Naseby district granted him under occupation lease was considered, and it was decided that the board had no power to grant a transfer to Burns as requested. The Tuapeka County Council forwarded statement of pro Dosed expenditure of " thirds " and " fourths " "for period 4/1/04 to 31/3/04.— Approved. A memo, from the Inspector of Telegraphs with reference to sections 3, 4, and 13, block XXIV, town of Palmerston, and also with reference to sections 5 to 8, block XX, same town, was considered, and it was decided to recommend the Government to give effect to the request of the Telegraph Department £0" reserve sections 3, 4, and 13, block XXIV, for their exclusive use ; J. Cameron to be offered a yearly lease of sections 5 to 8, block XX, at a rental of 30s.

A memo, from the Inspector of Mines in regard to the application by Duncan Sutherland ioi a renewal oi his coal license over three acres at Wharekuri, block VI, Kurow district, was considered, and was referred to the ranger for a report on the points raised by the Inspector of Mines. »

An application by William Murcott to purchase the closed roadline adjoining sections 7, 8, and 9, block LXIV, town of Hampden ; a letter from the Hampden Borough Council objecting to the sale ; and one from the County Council stating that as it was not a matter that concerned the county ratepayers' the Land Board could deal with the piece of land as they thought fit, were received. — It was decided to ob'iain a report from, the chairman and Mr Duncan.

An application by T. J Francis to purchase section 15, block VII, Naseby district, held under perpetual lease, wns ordered to be forwarded for ihe approval of the Minister.

An application by Edwin W. Gowdy to transfer village homestead allotment, being section 18, block VIII, Glenkenjcli district, to David Kirk was granted, subject to the approval of the Minister for Lands.

An application by Thomas Healy for a rehearing of an application to transfer lease in perpetuity over section 16, block V, Naseby district, to Georgs Hodgins was granted, subject to permanent improvements to the value of £40 being effected within 12 months.

An application by William Perriam for a license to occupy section 7, block 111, Kawarua district, plantation reserve, was considered, and a grazing license was granted et a rental of 15s per annum.

D. M'Gregor, P. M'Carthy, and M. Cannon wrote with reference to their application for a, grazing license over Ihe mining reserve, block I,"St. Bathans district. Letters were received from Thomas Morgan, William Mills, and the Vinegar Hill Hydraulic and Sluicing Company objecting to the granting of a license. — The ranger to call a meeting of those interested in the reserve, and arrange for a committee to deal with it.

W. H. Glover lenewed his application for section 16, blojk IV, Makareao Estate. — Declined.

Ranger Atkinson reported on the application by T. H. Parata, jun., for a licease to occupy sections 19, 20, 21, and 22, block X, town of AVaikouaiti. — Granted at a rental of 20s.

Dr F. Truby King applied to have sections 17 and 20, block VII, town of Waikouaifi, offered for sale by auction. — To be offered at first auction sale, at an upset price of £5 per quarter acre. Mrs A. G. Fraser (nee M. J. Noone) applied for exemption frjm. residence on small grazingrun 225ff, Highfield. — Exemption granted until September 30. Dalgety and Co., on behalf of Miss B. Kearney, applied for an extension of time in winch to effect residence 011 small gra?ir.g run 225 ii, Highfield.— ln order to give Miss Kearney timo to erect a sun-dried brick house it was decided to grant exemption from residence until December 30.

William Dolan, lessee of section 24a, Maerewhenua Estate, applied for permission to cut down from 15 to 20 of the pine trees in front of the house. — On the recommendation of the ranger permission granted. A. Gray, secretary of the Pom^haka- Downs School Committee, wrote asking that the committee be allowed, the use of "the sledge hut on section 21, block XIII, Pomahaka Downs Estate, as a temporary school room. — Granted. Ranger Atkinson reported that John Walsh, lessee of small grazing run 317. sections 11, 14, and 14a, block VII, Waiheino district, was not complying with tr3 conditions of his lease. — ■ Lessee to show cause why his lease should not be forfeited for non-compliance with the residence conditions of his lease.

Application to transfer lease in perpetuity: — Jane'M. Grant-Ussher to George Snell, allotments 46 and 48, West Taieri, Momona Settlement. — Granted. The board was requested to authorise the Receiver of Land Revenue to deal with a sum. of £2 5s paid as valuation for improvements on sections 37 and 38, block IV, Glenkeaich district. — Receiver authorised to pay £2 5s as valuation for imurovements to Mrs Bellamy. An application by John Colling, jun., for an occupation lease under the Mining Districts Land Occupation Act over 10 acies, St. Bathsins district, was considered and granted, fhe rent to be suggested by the surveyor.
