OTAGO X-CONTINGENTERS CLUB.

The first annual meeting of the Otago Ex-Contingeiiters' Club was held in the •C&ntral Hotel on Friday, 3rd. Thers was a fairly good attendance, amongst those present being representatives from practically every contingent except the First. Mr E. J. Hayden (vice-president) occupied the chair owing to the unavoidable absence of the j president (Dr O'Neill), who forwarded an apology for non-attendance. Apologies were also received from Major Jackson and Messrs J. A. Park and E. L. Duncan. i The following report for the year ended May 31 was presented to the meeting: — [ Your committee, in presenting the first j an'Cital report, have every reason to feel satisi ried with the support accorded to the club i during the past year. The membership now stands at 70, which is very satisfactory. Club rooms were taken early in the year, but it was deemed inadvisable to continue them owing to the small number of ex-contin?enters residing in Dunedin. 3>uring the year two social gatherings were held m the shape of a .ball and re-\inion, which -were very successful, being well attended -by ex-contingenters from all parts of Otaga. The balance sheet is very satisfactory considering the heavy expenditure incurred during the year. During the year the first president (Mr D. A. Hickey) found it necessary to resign, and Sxirgeoncaptain- O'Neill was elected to the vacancy, an appointment which gave universal satisfaction. Lieutenant Haydon was also elected to fill a vacancy as vice-president, caused by the retirement of Mr S. L. Jones. Major H. D. Jackson was unanimously elected to tho positon of third vice-president. Owing to the press of business, Mr Conn, the original hon. secretary and treasurer, found it necessary to resign, and Mr P. G. Williams was elected in his stead, and has carried out his duties to the satisfaction of all concerned. Twenty-fwo committee meetings were held during the year, and were well attended by 'members. In retiring your committee wish to 'make the following recommendations : — That the annual subscription be reduced to ss, the same to admit to the annual gathering, to be held during summer show week. That the matter of club rooms be held over until the club is strong enough numerically and financially to undertake it, but- that a room be engaged for the committee meetings, so that expenses will be kept as low as possible: that the incoming committee be authorised to revise the existing rules where it is deemed necessary. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said he thought that the report was most satisfactory taking ev&ry- | thing into consideration. The ball and reunion held during the year had been very successful. The report was adopted. Th© election of officers resulted as follows : President, Dr O'Neil (re-elected) ; viee-prceidents — Major . H., D» Jackson, Mr E. J. Hayden (re-elected), and Mr D.
