MR CLEMENT L. WRAGGE
Mr Clement L. Wrag^s, whose ability a« a forecaster of the weather has made his name familiar throughout the colonies, and for that matter, the world, will make his first appearance in Dunedin at the Garrison Hall on Easier Saturday evening for a season of thiee nights in his popular scientific entertainment entitled, "A Voyage Through the Universe," 'the Paris telescope, and the moon, illustrated with beautiful lantern pictures of the heavens, eun, moon, and planets, specially sent out from the Lick and leading observatories of the world. These entertainments have been given in the leading cities of the Commonwealth, and aro highly spoken .of, being thoroughly entertaining and instructive, therefore a. special treat is in store for those wishing to be initiated in the science of meteorology and astronomy, ilr Wragge has had a remarkable career. In 1575 he joined the Royal Geographical Society, and through the high recommendation of Sir Bartle Frere in 1878, joined the Royal Meteorological Society, London, and established meteorological stations in North Staffordshire; in 1881 he founded the nowfamous Ben Nevis Observatory (Scotland), for which ho received a gold medal. He then cam© to Australia, and started the Torr&ns and 1 Mount Lofty (Adelaide) Observatories. In 1887 he became Government meteorologist for Queensland. On June 1, 1895, he reorganised the Mount Wellington Observatory; January 1, 1893, Mount Koeeiusko, the roof oJt Australia, was established, along with a low-level station, Merimbula; and in 1902 he took over the Queensland weather bureau as a private conc&rn, which he closed down on June 30, 3903.
