CH ESS MATCH.

A match between six members of the family of Mr R. Botting, sen., and an equal number of junior club players took place at the Otago Chess Club last Wednesday evening. Mr F. Botting captained the visitors, while Mr J. Stone filled: a similar office for the home team. Mr Mouat filled a vacancy in the club team occasioned by the unavoidable absence cf Mr A. R- Barclay. Stone (vice-president) warmly congratulated the visitors on their skill, and expressed the hope that another match would take place at an early date. Mr R. Botting, ssn., in responding, attributed his family's defeat to the fact that they were accustomed to play on much smaller boards. The proceedings terminated with three cheers for the Botting family.
