MR SEDDON ON THE SITUATION.
PALMERSTON NORTH, Feb. 4. The South African veterans in the Manawatu district have formed an association, and last night celebrated their first anniversary with a dinner, which was largely attended by soldiers and townspeople. Amongst the giiests was the Premier, who, in the coufa3 of a patriotic speech, said a struggle was imminent in the Far East, and expressed the opinion that the sympathy of the people cf the colony was with the Japanese. He also emphasised the importance to Australasia of preventing Russians getting- a/ seaboard in Marohuria from which she could menace tho Pacific
