Notes from Cromwell.

CFroh Oub Own Correspondent.)

CROMWELL, February 2. The weather is very warm, and ihe liver is falling steadily. The Hartley and Riley dredge dropped back to the bottom of the claim a-gain, and started) dredging yesterday. When, working there previously the returns were very small for a few weeks, and it is thought the lead may be on. the outside of the cut worked. So far nothing big is reported. . The Elci-tvic No. 2 dredge is likely to wash. up an evert hotter return than last week. TheTe is a good stietch of ground in. Iront of the dredge. The Halfway House dredge was working tha old ground last week, and is now gettug into the maiden ground again

February 6. Tho weather is fine, and the liver is falling steadily. . . . 'Ihere was great excitement hers last night when the local director (Mr Horn) and the master of the Electric No. 2 dredge drove in to the bank at dusk, and rumours of the return being as high as 1500oz were cuirent. The correot return is 12550z lodwt. The ground is still phenomenally rich, and it is reported here that the ground is improving every day. I£ this is the case the coming week's return 19 likely to be still better. The Hartley and Riley dredge ijot a bit of solid ground on the bottom boundary, and should have a good return for a. few weeks. The Voltaic dredge got over the falls safely yesterday, and I believe the low river made it much easier.

The Rise and Shine No. 2 dredge is washing up to-day, and will likely nave good returns now.
