RACING IN NEW ZEALAND. C.J.C. GRAND NATIONAL MEETING.

! First Tuesday, August 12. Ideal spring weather favoured the C.J.C. for the Grand National meeting, and the attendance was very largo, amongst those present being the Governor and party. The investments totalled £15,146, as against £13,667 lasb yeai. Awahuri gave an excelleus display of fencing in the Grand Natiqnal Steeplechase, and won it very easily at the finish. Hipstono was gailopiug very strongly when he fell. Vladimir was in front all the way in the Wintci Cup. Running to Cutts's the field closed up, aud at the fence Awahuri and Scottish Minstrel fell. Waiwera went to the front at the mile post, followed by Tradewind and Battleaxe, Evening also making a forward move. Waiwera continued to ,ake the field along solidly, and entered the straight •nell clear of everything', running- borne unpressed four lengths ahead of Tradewind, who teat Evening by a. couple of lengths.
