Station groom-i and gardeners, milkers, and station and farm hands are getting employment daily. Wages rule as follows- — Station and form couples, £68 to £70 ; married ploughmen, £75 to £80; ploughmen, 22s 6d to 23s 6d; leading ploughmen, 255; grooms and gardeners, 20-j milkers, 15s to 17 6d; waggoners, 255 ; fencers, 22a 6d ; cooka and bakers, 255, 30»; rabbit poisoners, 15a to 17a 6d; flax-cutters, 4a 6d to 5a per ton.
The Westport Coal Company's output h«t week was Tf29 tons coal
The other day in Nelson, while a resident and his family were strolling past one of the hotels, one of the easho9 of an upstairs window, glass and all, came tumbling down on the footpath, ©scaping the head of the resfdwit by a hair's breadth. Tho window, an old-fashioned one, was blown out by a high wind which prevailed at the time.
