FAST TAIERI AND ALLANTON PRESS BYTERIAN CHURCH.
A meeting of the East Taieri and Allanton congregations was held in the Ea6t Taieri Presbyterian Church on Monday evening foi" tho purposo of considering what steps should be taken to fill th« pulpit rendered vacant by the transfer<?nce of the Rev. J. B. Hall to Hunterville, North Island. The Rev. Dr Gibb (Moderator) presided, and there was a large attendance of members and adherents. The Moderator related the steps leading up to the meeting, and explained bh© various ways in which theT congregation could act according to. the laws of the Presbyterian, Church. Mr W. L. Christie moved, and MiD. Sutherland seconded, an open motion to the effect that — " The congregations were in a position to call a minister, and that they desire th<» Dunedin Presbytery to moderate as speedily as poi^ible in a call." An. amendment to the effpet "That the congregations were not in a position to call a minister" lapsed for want of a seconder. With the exception of three persone. all preo<>nt voted in favour of tho motion, and the Moderator therefore declared it carried unanimously. The meeting throughout waa characterised by the utmost harmony and eood foiling, and it is more- than probable that the East Taieri chari?^ will shortly he «»ttle<l.
