Tho Inspector reported that about 16 chains required the scrub clearing off on tlie road applied for by Mr M'lnnsss, the cost estimated at £1 sa; that to put the road leading to Mr Hill's property m good order would require the scrub to be cleared, tho water tables cleaned out, and the road centre raised. He would recommend that the work stand over for the present. That it was intended to put up a saw mill at the aide of the Wftitati-Waikan road, and if the engines to be used were taken across the bridges it would dpstroy the planknig,' which was decayed; that gorse. was encroaching on the Mam road from Waita-ta township to tho boundary, as also broom, so that tho watar tables could not be cleared; that ho had examined Clark's bridge, and recommended tlhat to keep the piles m position stays be put in at an estimated cost of £VX — Pc-solved that the inspector ba authorised to get the work in M'lnnes's application done at his own estimate , that the recommendation ro Hill's application be approved; that the inspector be instructed to place notices on the budges intimating that they are unaafe for traffic exceeding two tons, and the clerk notsfy interested pa-rties ; that notice be given to owners to clear the gorse and broom on the Main Blucskin road or proceedings would be taken , that tenders be called for the work on Clark's bridge.

It was resolved that Inspector Randall be appointed health officer for Waikouaiti County, the county to deft ay his expenses.

Mr J Miller, Punikauui, wrote with reference to expenditure on the road inside their boundary.— Received.

Mr W. Warren wrote enclosing £10, amount collected among the settlers interested in Pigeon Flak roud — Received, and the matter previously attended to. A letter was received referring to the bad state of the road lending to Mr Miller's pio porty — The inspector to report Mr Duncan M'Rae wrote re the inspector's report on the proposed bridge over Ncnthorn Creek, and statmq that the estimate was excessive and that a small bridge only was required — Mr M'Rao to be informed of the width and length of the bridge on which the inspector's calculations were basrd.

Mr J. Flannery wrote drawing attention to the state of the road to hi 3 run. — Cr Porteous and the inspector to inspect and report, and the chairman to deal with.

Mr G. H. Hammond, Morton, wrote asking that the culvert opposite his place be closed on account of floods resulting.— Declined.

The West Harbour Borough Council wrote offering to contribute £10 towards cost of proposed improvement to Sawyers' Bay Boundary roiid.— Received.

Mr T. Mackenzie, M.H.R., wrote that he would do lus bent to secure votei for necesMtous work in the county — Received.

M.T A. M'Kinnon. Sa-wyers" B>iv, wrote complaining; of the delay in repairing the road. — Received, the matter having been attended to.

Mr F. 11. Ward and four others applied to have binding clay put on tk« metal of StringeT's contract. — Tlie matter to be attended to on the balance of the grant coming to hand.

The Chief Veterinarian wrote enclosing slaughterhouse licenses to H. Carson, J Sutherland, A. Kilpatack, B. W. Fell, and G. E. Charlton. — Received.

Mr J. A. Townsend wrote drawing attention to the state of the gateway leading to his new house, Waikouaiti. — The inspector to report at next meefrng. Tire KeceiveT of Land E-evenue wrote that lie had placed to credit of tha connciL's account £94 18s Bd, being ' thirds" and " fourths" accrued from January 5 to March 31. — Received.

A voucher was received from the Treasury, Wellington, to the effect that £5 10s, refund of part of butchers' license 'fees, had been credited to the council's account; also a secortl voucher that £S2 3s 4d (advance on ffummockside vote) had been placed to the credit of fie council's account.

GENEfiAL.

Accounts amounting to £266 8s 7d wore passed for payment.

The following tenders were accepted- — Formation of footpath and widening road from Saivyers' Bay Railway Station to junction of Port Chalnieis road, W. J. Harkness and Co., £19 15s M , 100 yards metal for Pigeon Flat Tond, H. W. Biook (4s 9d per yard), £23 15s. Fresh tenders to be called for 100 yards of metal, Hawksbury Bush rend, and for cartage of 170 yar&s of gravel from Tumai Railway Station to Flag Swamp road.

The Chairman reported that July 20 had Been fixed on as tho date for the commencement of the poisoning- of srnnll birds by tlie local authorities in the district. — It was resolved to leave the matter of procuring poison in the hands of the chairman.

Resolved, that notice be served on Mr Mackay that tho council will require him to remove within six months the gates on the road leading to his property.

It was resolved that a special meeting of the council be held on. July 24 to discuss the revision of the bye-laws and prepare a- new set.

It was resolved to again draw the Stock Dopartmont'g attention to the maiter of clearins 1 gorse from ground on Mill road, towards Mr Watkina's.
