A PARLIAMENTARY SCENE
JOHN NORTON SUSPENDED.
SYDNEY, June 26.
The censure debate was marked by a disgraceful scene. After a wordy warfare between Mr John Norton (Northumberland) and Mr E. C. V. Broughtou (Sydney-King Division), wherein some choice epithets were employed, Norton suddenly crossed the floor and struck Broughton several blows in the face with his fist, knocking him from his seat. Amid great excitement Norton was seized and prevented doing further damage. The House adjudged Norton guilty of contempt, and suspended him for bhe remainder of the sitting. Broughton apologised, but the House refused to accept his apology. A motion to suspend him fell through.
The censure debtate has been adjourned.
