THE DIRECT STEAMERS.
The Paparoa left Plymouth on the 21st inst. for Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton. , The Gothic, which sailed from Wellington on the 29th May, left Rio de Janiero on Sunday Morning. The Athenic, whioh left Wellington on May 15, arrived at Plymouth on Thursday afternoon. v
The Corinthic left Capetown on Friday afternoon for Wellington, via Hobart.
AUCKLAND, June 26.— Arrived : Whakatane, from London. Passtngers : Hen.. A. J. Cadman, Mise Cadman, Messrs Cadman and John-son.

WELLINGTON, June 26.— Sailed: 4.15 p.m., Kumairu. fo"r London. WELLINGTON, June 28.— Arrived: 12.15 p.m., Tokomaru, from London, via Hobart. She is at present in the quarantine ground. HOBART, June 23.— Arrived: 9 a.m., Tokomaru, from London. She sails for Wellington at 3 o'clock this afternoon, and brings four passengers for Australia and 57 for New Zealand.
LONDON, June 23.— Arrived: Tnrakina, from Timaru. Sailed: Paparoa, for Wellington.
The bulk of the Essex's cargo will he taken by the Morayshire, and the balaneo by t]je Sussex.
It is reported that the White Star Line Company is building another twin-screw steamer of about 12,000 tons for the Lon-don-New Zealand, via South Africa and Hobart, service. The new vessel will trade under the auspices of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company. On her last voyage from the Bluff to Hobart the Union Steam Ship Company's steamship Wurrimoo made a record. She covered the d 'stance between the two ports in 6thr 15min, having performed that distance at a speed slightly exceeding 14£, knots.
The Shire Line steamship Nairnshire, Captain C Olpon, left Port Chalmers on Friday afternoon for London, via the Bluff. She took a large quantity of frozen meat, tallow, and other cargo from this port.

Departures: Invercargill, s.s, 123 tons; Waikare, s.s., 1901; Rimu, s.s.. 143; Rosamond, e.s., 632: Monowai, s.s.. 2137; Nairn*=hire, s.s., 8502; Invercarcill, s.s., 123; Talune, s.s , 1370 ;— total, 21.375 tons. Total arrivals and departures, 48,377 tons.
