DAVIS'S BEND DREDGIXG COMPANY.
The Old Dunstan Company's dredge, which was passed in when submitted to auction on Friday last on account of the reserve not being reached, has been purchased by tho Davis's Bend Dredging Company for the sum of £1175. The company intend to use the dredge on their claim above Clyde, purchased from the Cairnmuir Company and worked with satisfactory results by their other dredge, which has r.ow been shifted to the original Davis's Bend claim below Alexandra. The dredge, which is now in charge of a caretaker, will only have to lie shifted a distance of about 100 yurds on to the property of her new owner?, as the two claims adjoin each other. The dredge is said to be quite capable of working the claim for which she was purchased, and as the machinery is in good order a slart will probably be made in the near futurp. In December last the Davis's Bend Company secured protection over the claim for a period of six months, but it is statnd that several persons were watching developments with the object of jumping the claim, if possible, when the \>eriod of six months expired. The fact that tho. company has bought the dredge will therefore be a source of disappointment to those who had designs on the property.
