Notes from Cromwell.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) CROMWELL, May 6. The -weather is fine, but the rivor is not falling as one would expect with tho heavy frosts all the week, but probably will fall fasl during the next few days. The drift is exceptionally bad, and th« Junction Electric No. 1 dredge ha 3 been baling drift over a day without shifting. It is alsa bad at the Electric and Cromwell No. 1 dredges, and must affect the retun s. The Hartley and Riley dredge is not doing so well. I believe she is on a hard bar. The Riley's Beach dredge is having a lot of trouble with rough ground, drift, and stoppages. The Alpine Consols dredge had to stop through tho high Tiver and the drift, but will likely get started again in a few days. The Royal Maori dredge started last night. There should bo rich wash if the dredge can handle the gTound. May 9. The weather is fine, with heavy frosts at night. The river is falling fast, and should soon, bo at lew level.
