iCFbom Ofb Own Cobeespondent.) INVERCARGILL, May 6. ' t\ large number of citizens, at the invitation of the Town Council, assembled for the '•opening of the new Fire Brigade Station. It will be remembered that the old station (was burned down some time back, and since {then the apparatus and training room has fbeen confined to a small ehed adjacent to the .original site. The Mayor-elect (Mr G. Frog"<ratt) presided. Mr C. Longuet, the retiring
Mayor, was presented with a silver key by which the building was opened. The Mayor, after a brief speech, in which reference was made to the excellent work ~~i the brigade, declared the station open and ready for entry. Sir J. G. Ward was also present, and in a happy speech congratulated the town 3n its new acquisition. The Battalion Band was in attendance, enlivening affairs considerably with an entertaining programme of up-to-date music.
A project is afoot in Hawera to bold an industrial exhibition there;.
