RUMOURS OF A BIG BATTLE. THE DEATH OF MAJOR PLUNKETT. LONDON. May 5. General Manning is collecting the scattered posts along the Obbia line. The Mullah is quiescent. Italy's backwardness in occupying Mudug and other points on the Italian hinterland now in British possession is hindering operations. May 6. A rumour is current at Aden that the Mullah attacked a column at Galadi, but was repulsed with heavy loss. It is stated that the British losses were considerable. Five thousand Indian camels have been purchased for Somaliland. May 8. A Reuter's message states that opinion at Aden is against Britain reverting to the 10-mile coastal limit, and recommends the retention of a line running through Bohotle, Sarrero, xiurao, and Hargeisa as the only practical frontier for the protectorateMajor Plunkett's last stand was made in. open ground covered with low bushes 3ft high. The Mullah's forces occupied thick bush. The Mullah led the last rush. Mean-
while, after ordering 50 survivors to make a final charge, Captain Phmkett was shot dead.
