The April number of the Review of Renews may bo called a thoroughly interesting one, full of wide and acceptable topics of interest. From the frontispiece, consisting of the three central figures in Eugene Barnand's great picture of Christ's prayer after the Last Supper, through the many pages devoted to the history of the month in .sober earnest and in collective caricature, we arrive at some very capital little papers— notably, "Australian Naval Defence," a paper on "Australian Humour" (or the lack of it), a character sketch by Mr Stead of "London, the Stepmother, and the Stranger Within Her Gates," followed by "Books of the Month," of which a representative group is selected, and last, but not least, tho always acceptable pages devoted to brief notice of the leading articles in contemporary reviews and magazines. For excellent humour we heartily commend to our readers the extracts, with their accompanying illustrations, from "A Modern Froissart." "Boondi's Book." — We have received from the office of the Sunday Times, Sydney, the above collection of "Boondi's" most approved efforts, illustrated. The episodes are everyday, as everyday as house-hunting, spring cleaning, scolding wives, worried women, and drunken husbands, and the humour extracted from them, U broad, is perhaps on that account the more easily discernible and widely appreciable, for we all know how screamingly funny "the other man" is when he is "a bit on," and every ■woman can see how supremely ridiculous ©very other woman (•specially Her dearest friend) can be on occasions. If we don't see it, then "Boondi," with pen and pencil, is desiring nothing better than to show ue, *t- rhe moderate cost of one shilling. The May number of the Triad announces %he results of its last aompetition on the Selection of the "Twelve Greatest Poets, (British jt Amerioan, Living or Dead." enough, the successful competitor* in the poets' list— Mies E. Hodgkinson, of Southland, and Mr R. G. Christopher, In.ve'rcargill — were also the successful competitors in the Novels competition of an earlier 'date. There are a few nice illustrations, a ■mart seleotion of verses, paragraphs, and •attracts, and also a musical supplement in

this month's Triad — in fact, a» usual, the number is bright, and interesting.
