STRATH-TAIERI A. AND P. ASSOCIATIO N .

THE ANNUAL SHOW

President, Sir W. Moynihan ; a ice-presi-dents—Messrs J. Elliot, R. H. Weston. C. D. Smith, A. Guild, G. M'DonaJd, and G. Grant; committee— Messrs W. Moynihan, J. Robertson, sen., F. Atkinson, A. .Stewart, H. Webb, J. M'Donald, F. Moynihan, A. Guild, J. Pcugh, J. Tbdall, sen., W. Robertson. H. Brensell, D. B. Grant, R. Harper. W. Thompson, J. Nolan, A. Marshall, and G. Grant. The Strath-Taieri Agricultural and Pastoral Association held its second annual ■show it Middlemarch on Monday, when there was a surprisingly large attendance, there being a large number of Dunedi'i visitor?, and visitors from Hindon, Button, Barewood, Hyde, Kokonga. the Mauiototo, and even Ida Valley. The weather being fine, the attendance was maintained throughout the- day. The list of entrie-s was much larger than at the orevious show, and quite a formidable array of exhibits faced the judges, especially in the horses, cattle, and sheep classes. Amongst the cattle classes the wellknown Gladbrook Polled Angivs were present in force, including the champion bull Engineer. One or two very nice tborthorn animals were exhibited, and the, dairy cows entered were of a very high standard. Tlva horse classes are exceptionally well contested, and the draught and hackney, or carriage classes, show long lists of entries. In the sheep section Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co.'s Gladbrook stock is well to the fore, and some fine merino-.,, bred on the estate, wore shown. Gl&dbrook stock takes the only reward in the merino c'ass and a prominent place in the Border rain class: while Mr C. Dorp is ixho a consistent e\hibitor of fina stock in the Romney and fat sheep elapse?. Taken altogether, the exhibits in the sheep section were of a \cry high standard indeed, end it is to be regretted thai, mere f-vliibils tlul not come forward, more especially iv the merino clause*. The pigs generally were a good lot. but the entry too Fmal! for the . ti-triet. There were some very fine exhibits in the poultry clause.-, especially in Orpingtons and Leghorn* ; but the durks and fjec^e c\a~«O3 indiic-cd no entries. The (1 spl.iy of farm pro'h'ea afford? a striking illustration of tlte productive capacity -if th-,s fertile district. There uera tvo implement '•tands, Mr A. Burns, of the New Zea!:oul Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's machinery department, exhibiting one of the well-known '" Farmers' Favourite" diillo, a '"Hercules" cultivator, and a " Crown " cream peiiarator ; J Robin and Co., a double-seated buggy, a dog curt, awl Kirj : n.nd Messrs Cooper and Dunran (suc-<•-.-rus to the Southland Implement and Ivvginprrmg Company) a " Ccloni?! " dr.l'.

" Colonial " single and dniiblc-furrow ploughs, and disc and spring liairow. The-;? utand.* wore a centre of attraction throughout the day. Following: is the priz" 1 list as far as it conkl he obtained before the depart!'ic of ti.e trai'i: —
