OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS ASSOCIATION.

' A committee meeting of the Otago Early • Settlers' Association, .held in the office of the secretary on the Bth/- was attended by Me John Reid (in the cnair), Messrs Thomson, Duke, Baokett, Ferene, M'Millan, J Wood, Proudfoot (treasurer), J. Langlands (secretary), and Dr Will. An apology was received from Mr Donald Reid. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs James Scott (Alison Ixinglands) for the gift of a book. " Wanderings with a Philosopher in Southern Otago." This, though published anonymously, is known to be by the lato Mr J. J. Thomson, chief surveyor, a man of great scientific attainments, and this work forms a valuable addition to tho , collection ; With regard to th 9 forthcoming bazaar, the Secretary reported that sewing bees were being held all over the- province; and, that the ladies generally were very active in the matter, and was glad to say more attention was now being given fo its success" a» a whole. Regret was expressed that there were still some outstanding subscriptions for this year, and it was decided that the secretary bring before tho committee at next meeting the names of all members whose pubscriptions are unpaid after the end of this month. Arrangements were made by which the office will be open during business hours ' after the Easter holidays. . Eighteen new ! me-mbors were enrolled.
