THE CHARGE AGAINST DR FULLARTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, March 8.

The trial of Dr Fullarton, charged with performing an illegal operation, began on Friday, and was concluded shortly before 5 o'clock on Saturday. The jury, after a retirement of less than five minutes, returned a verdict of "Not guilty." The girl Bates, under cross-examination, admitted receiving certain, pilis from Campbell before the alleged operation, but said she did not use> them. Campbell admitted he gave them to secure the desired result. For the defence the principal evidence was that of Margaret and W. Gill, who said that Dr Fullartoa was at their house at Woodend after 7 p.m. on the 15th January. The alleged operation was said to have been performed about 8.15 that evening. James Wallis gave evidence that he was in Dr Fullarton's house at 7.50 on that evening, and heard Dr Fullarton say to the girl that he could not do any tl>ing. He did not know what that reply referred to. Wallis also said that, the doctor could not have been in the room with the girl more than two minutes. March 9. The jury, after j retirement of about fiv "> minutes, returned a verdict ot " Not guilty" in the case of Dr Fullarton, charged! with illegally using an instrument.
