SIR J. G. WARD.
A PRACTICAL FEDERAL BOND. SIDNEY, March 3. The Daily Telegraph, commenting on Sir J. G. Ward's suggestion that .Aus-. traua and New Zealand band together to prevent the forcing down of stocks,says that Sir J. G. Ward, however unconsciously, affirms a practical Federal relationship, and admits an interdependence which certainly is not to be inferred from New Zealand's general political attitude towards federation. That' New Zealand would be affeoted by Australian financial conditions could have been predicted at any time. This is 'what has happened. When Australian credit was good, so was that of New Zealand;, now that it is bad, New Zealand finds itself within the sphere of frost. MELBOURNE, March 3. Sir J. G. Ward was entertained at. luncheon by Sir E. Barton (Federal Pre- • mier), the Victorian Premier, the Lord 1 Mayor, and a representative gathering* being present. > The Australian Club also entertained; Sir Joseph at dinner, when representa-' tives of all the steamship services were present. His health was cordially proposed.
