HORTICULTURAL SHOWS.

WEST TAIERI A.UTUSIN EXHIBITION.

The autumn show of -the West " Taieri Horticultural Society took' place at Outrairi on Saturday in the Societies' Hall. In several respects the show was an improvement on the summer show, and there was a fine array of flowers. Noticeable among these were the entries in the competition for the best collection of cut flowers, and three capital exhibits were sent, the first prize going to Mrs James Dow and the second to Mr K. Low. Another very fine exhibit in the cut flowers section was the spikes of gladioli, for which Mrs W. Thomson was awarded first and second. The display of fruit was limited, although good enough in point of quality. The season has been anything but favourable from the fruit growers' point of view, and the entries in this section suffered in consequence. The vegetables were very good, and the honours fairly evenly distributed. There was also excellent competition in the classes for homemade produce. The judging of the show was carried out oxpeditiously. and was concluded shortly after 2 o'clock, thanks largely to the excellent arrangements of the secretary (Mr Miller), who always has everything in capital order. The prize list appears" in Monday's Daily Times.
