The seaion for shooting imported and native game m the County of Waitaki, Otago, and Lakes district and Southland has been fixed from April 1 to June 3.
When inspecting tin* Nelson Garrison Band on Saturday lasc General Babington remarked (says the Wesfcport Times) that tin-, was the worst equipped band he had yet inspected. They had no accoutrement.", and the uniforms* were very shabby. He might have added that the instruments were also nearly worn cut, for they have had about 16 years* service.
The Government and the Wellington Acclimatisation Society are not in accord rcgard'ng the regulations gazetted for the deer stalking eeawin. The present season corresponds with that of last 3 r ear in date of opening, in duration, and in the number of heads allowed to be taken. The council of tK" fociety recommended that the season open lytr\ but clo=e on the same date as last year, and .that on'y three heads instead of fi\e be allowed to ba taken.

The Tapanui Courier says that the season for garden robberies has opened firm in the district, and recommends residents to chargetheir guns and hold their bulldogs in readi--ncss. ■ ■

A shed adjacent to a flaxmill at One Tree Point, in Southland, containing 16 bales of fibre and 18 bales of tow, valued at £90, was destroyed' bjc fee- or Wednesday night.
