TATTERSALL'S SWEEPS.

ARRESTS IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, November 7. Two men in business here have been arrested on a charge of keeping a common gaming house and managing a lottery. There is more in the arrest of Harrison and Packman than would appear from the simple charge of keeping a gaming house, etc. Detectives M'Grath, Broberg, Boddam, and Cameron raided an office in the New Zealand Consolidated Dental Buildings, on the corner of Cuba and Mercer streets, opposite the Central Fire Brigade Station, this office being the gaming house or the premises referred to in the charges. It was rented by the "Tasmanian Parcek Express Delivery Company," and printed circulars found on the premises state that "email parcels can be sent or left with us for despatch by express and delivery to Tasmania, booking fee 6d." The detectives executed a search warrant, and arrested the occupiers or tenants — the two accused. Some time ago the Federal postal restrictions on correspondence addressed to "Adams" or "Tattersall," Tasmania, came into force. It happens that almost all the "parcels" found in the office of accused were small packages addressed to "Adamg" Jor. to ''T^^raaJjT^

Hobart, Tasmania. The police seized the packages and documentary evidence, from which"it would appear that those who thus addressed packages include well-known citizens. Harrison is understood to be manager of the company, and Packman Mb assistant. HOBART, November 7. Mr F. Corley (Christchurch) won the third prize of £1125 in TattersalTs No. 2 group.
