RACING IN NEW ZEALAND.

THE GERALDINE RACES. Fihst Day— Thursday, September 25. (Fbom Ode. Own Correspondent.) , The Geraldine Bacing Club commenced their . spring meeting to-day, and, despite the bitterly cold weather, there was a fairly good attend1 ance. The track was in fair order, and the racing on the whole interesting. The hurdles put up by the club did not have the usual wings, and several horaes ran off in the Hunters' Hurdles. Magnificent won the Squatters' Handicap comfortably, but Punamu, -who is engaged in the New Zealand Cup, was ■travelling well at the finish. The principal race was practically a duel between Terrapin and Cameo, and the former won by a good half length. Cameo was sore after he pulled up. Rosemere won the Fly.ng easily at the finish, and Lady Lillian beat the opposition in the Belfield Handicap in a very hollow fashion. The sum of £1094 10s was handled in the machine, as against £1214 10s handled on the fir3t day of last year's meeting.
