In the Legislative Council to-day it was decided to claim for the Speaker of the Council a voice in appointments to the Hansard staff. It was resolved to forward to the Government the motion passed la^t week referring to the unsatisfactory state of some of the Wellington hotels. The Fisheries Conservation Act was considered in committee, but progress was at once reported to ascertain the effect of a clause proposed by the Minister in charge giving to landowners the right to fish in waters limning through their properties.
