On tho Council resuming after the orening cerpmony, RESIGNATION AND NEW MEMBERS.

The SPRAKKR intimated that he had received tho resignation of the Hon. Mr Barnicoat as a member of t.he Council.

The now members of the Council — Messrs Holmes and Marshall — were sworn in.

Leave of absence was granted to the Hon Mr Cadman for the session.

TELE KINGS ILLNESS.

The Hon. W. 3. (VALKER moved that an address of sympathy be forwarded to the King i« hia illness* and expressive of a

hope for his speedy and complete recovery. He behttved such an address would meet tho approval, rot only of the Council, but the whole colony. Th» King's illuesa came as a shock to the whoi<» country, aud a universaj cry arose to the Throne of Mercy for his recovery. The King's life had been that of a live man, and his loss would have been a lok to progress.

Tho Hon. Mr BAILLIE seconded the motion, which was agreed to.

RECENT DEATHS.

The Hon. W. C. WALKER moved a motion expre-sive of the Council's and the House's less by the death of the Hon. Mr Shrimski and Mr A. Morrison, and moved that th» Council adjourn out of respect to their memory. Tho motion was agreed to. The Council rose at 3.45 p m.
