ARDGOWAN.

June 30. — Tho weather during the past month has been very wintry, there being very little flry weather during the whol* month, but light, flrizzly showers at least four days a week, with Ktxy cold southerly winds, and during the bights we had very heavy frosts. This cold, wintry weather ha 3 been very severe on stock in the open, and even where farmers- have byres they have found it necessary to increase the amount of hand-feeding. Owing to the tearly falling-off of grass, straw-carting to the young stock in the paddocks has already commenced. Creamery.— Owing to rough weatner and debase of feed, tho supply of milk to the cieamery has gone down considerably, and, to Curtail working expenses, milk is only taken in and the machinery set going four days a week. Scholastic— Some time ago a memorial was presented to the Minister of Education preying for a school to be erected on a site set apart for it by those in power. When the estate K-aB cut up the Minister forwarded the memorial to the Otago Education Board, at a. meeting of which it was duly considered; and thence it has been returned to the Minister, fcenuestint his sanction to the operation. I understand all this by-play is for financial reasons, as there is not the slightest doubt about the fact that we must have a school here fceside tho creamery, tho only question being as to who is to "pay the piper." Transfers.— Wo have had quite a number ot transfers lately. On one occasion five different ieouests were before the Land Board. In all these cases the vendors have gone out to better themselves. Mr R. Robertson cold ins •ectioc to Mr H. Callighan, who has a section adjoining it; whilst Mr Robertson has purphased a freehold on the Awamoa estate. Mr Oohn Currie, finding his section too small, -purchased the adjoining one from IJr J. ABoreham, who gives up farming to go into ■business. Mrs Corrigan having found tiie cares "of farming too severe, sold out +o retire to a private life in town, and two or three ©'.her transfers- are in operation. The Coronation.— The King's illness has cast , . » gloom over the district. Quite a number of ! • nur farmers journeyed to Duned^n to be pre»ent at the Coronation celebrxtions, amougat Whom were Messrs Sansom, Fiannery, lebisfcer, Thomson, WilcoK, and Park. It was a •ad disappointment to them when the cable knr.ouncing the King's illness was- made known. ■Valedictory. — Mr J. A. Boreham was requested to meet a number of Ihis friends at Jtho Queen's Hotel, Oamaru, prior to his departure for lJunedin, when, he was the recipient of some very handsome presents. Several of those present spoke highly of Mr BoreSiam's honesty, manliness, and friendship, and aegretted very much that business called him uway (from them. Mrs Boreham' s Ardgowan mnd Oamaru friends made use of the occasion fto show their good feeling towards her by bnaking her some very nice presents. On Frililay, when they left by the express, friends from lArdgowan and -Oamaru came to the station kc say farewell, with hearty good v,ish»s for Hheir future success.
