GREY MOUTH NEWS NOTES.
(FX.OM OVK OWN COEItESPOXDINT.) ! GREYIIOT7TH, May 7. I Acfua! work in ronnccrion with tlie opening of the Coal Civok State coal mine has commenced. A good number of colliers under Mr Herd are now engaged in making tunnels. The coal will ho worked from a free face, and the railway will run right to the month of the mine. At a meeting of the Kumara Hospital Trustees last night one of the trustees asked the chairman why a letter received by him nine months ago had not been laid before the trustees. It appears, as a result of the niayoral election, which .was bitterly contested, the chairman had shown a letter to some persons who were not, trustees. An. angry discussion took pJace, the trustees demanding that the letter be read. This was^done, when it was found that the document was from the auditor, to the effect that there was a deficiency of £91 19s 4d in tfie treasurer's bank account on August 1 3, and asking that the matter be made right. The chairman stated that as the money had been paid in there was no necessity to make the trustees aware of it. The dis-. cushion then waxed very warm, and it was moved and seconded that the treasurer be called upon to resign, whereupon the chairman left the chair. Another member was then voted to the chair, when a further resolution was proposed severely condemning the ohairman's action, and calling upon him to resign. The chairman, who had not left the room, stated that he hade verbally resigned when he left the chair. i A new treasurer was then appointed, and'more may possibly be heard of the matter.. The Grey Harbour Board has resolved to' a?k the Government to bring in a bill next' session giving the board power to open,' develop, and work a coal mine on the board's property.
