WAITATI.
May 10. — As the Saturday excursion train has now stopped running everything is very quiet here. All the sportsmen who have been coming here to shoot and fish have " struck camp and departed until next summer. Weather.— During the past fortnight we have had splendid weather — bright, warm daya, "with a suspicion of frost in the mornings and evenings to warn us of winter's approach. Crops. — The floods in March did a great deal *«f damage in the Waitati district. In many cases the crops have been completely ruined, and potato2s are, and will be, vfijy dear all the winter. "
School Committee.— At the householders' meeting on Monday, 286h ult., the following were elected as a" School Committee : —Mr Kilpadkk (chairman), Rev.' Mr Finlayson, Messrs Green, Briscoe, M'Connell, and Easton, with Mr Fenwick as secretary. '* Tennis. — A Tennis Club has been formed in Waitati, and the young ladies of the district are arranging to have a concert on the 21st inst. (with a. dance to follow), the proceeds of which are to help to defray expenses of preparing courts. 1 hear some members of the Dunedin musical world have promised to assist, bo there is a treat in store for us.
