OBITUARY.

A Timaru message states that Mr F. LeCren, late manager at Timaru of the N.Z.L and MA. Company for 27 years, died on Wednesday night, after a long illness : aged 67. "*• The death is announced in our obituary column this week of a lady well known and highly respected alike by " Old Identities " and the " New Iniquity " in the person of the widow of the late Mr Peter Robertson, of Lawrence. Her husband was head shepherd for Messrs Musgrave and Murray when Gabriel Read made his discovery of gold in Gabriel's Gully, a discovery v. hich in a few weeks worked a wonderful change in Otago The hut occupied by Mr and Mrs Robertson, midway between Waitakuna and Lawrence, was a regular stopping-place for all travellers in the exciting days which followed, and many hundreds of diggers had reason to be cratfful to the deceased lady for her acts of kindness and hospitality. Her husband subsequently took up some h.'.id near Lawrence, and resided there until his death, some years ago. The deceased lady, who was 81 years of age, is survived by a famuli of five sons and three daughter** and a very large number of grandchildren Tho Southland Times, report* the death of Mr Frederick Suttou, late ot Runny - meade, Thornbury. M 'Bride, o£ Franklon. died rather unexpectedly at his , father's residence on Monday, 7tb. Deceased was riding out last Saturday, when, feeling a faintness coining on, he dismounted/ After being taken home he became unconscious and never regained consciousness.* Deceased, who was only 32 years of age.^ was a, member of the Wakatipu Mounted Kifle«, and was therefore accorded a military funeral.
