N.Z. JERSEY BREEDERS ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Jersey Cattle Breeders/ Association (convened by ciicular) was held at Messrs Abraham and Williams' 6 office, Palmerston North, on April 9: present — Messrs J. O. Batchelar (president of the A. and P. Association— presiding), Lancaster, A. and C. Dormer (Feilding), Hutchings (Woodville), Knyvett (Stratford), Tapp (Onehmiga), A Buchanan, and Kirton. Apologies were rqecened from several breeders unable to b> present, but willing to join die proposed association. Correspondence was received from A. Quertier (Mataura). G. Coulter (Hawkesbury), Mrs F. E Jennings (Tarauaki), W. M ~'lapp (Onehunga). E Hall (secretary of the Auckland Provincial Agricultural Assoviation), and J. F. C'ato (Napier) expressing their willingness to help the proposed association in every possible way. It was decided, on the motion e>f Mr Dermer, spconded by Mr Tapp — " That a New Zealand Jcrt-oy Cattle Breeders" Association should be formed, and that those present should become members of the association." On the motion of Mr Kirtcn, seconded by Air Dermer, Mr J. C. Lane (secretary Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association) wa o asked to uudertake the secretarial duties, which he agreed to do subject to the consent of his committee being obtained. Rules adopted at a meeting of Jersey cattle breeders held at Stratford in March last were read, and also the constitution and by-laws of the American Jersey Cattie Club. Pvcpiying to the chaiiman, Mr Kny\et, representing the Stratford Association, stated that at the preliminary meeting held there ie was generally considered tl-at there should be only one association, the rules adopted tl'cre being simply forwarded to Palmer-ton for approval or otherwise. In the general discussion that followed the reading of the rules, several improvements were suggested, elcaling generally with those drawn up by the Stratford As-;-ociation. and will be dealt with later on. The election of officers was next proceeded with, and resulted as follows : — President, Mr J O. Batchelar; Pro\isional Council — Messrs A. C. Dermer. Stuekey, Watson, Hutchings, Day, Knyvett, P. Hunter. Tapp, Buchanan, Lancaster, Kirton, Qvertier, Cato, Coulter, J. G. Harknc«s, and J. N. Jenmng-'. The council v. ill draw up and diaft rules, confer with the .Stratfoid delegate, and communicate with breoelers in connection with the association, and report to a meeting to be held at a later date. In reply to a question by Mr Hutchings, the opinion was expressed that to endeavour to convert the breed into polled cattle would mitigate against them in the show ring. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Buchanan, to sugge-t the amalgamation of tli * rules of the Jersey Cattle Club with tho-so of the Stratford meeting. Mr l'\ K. Watson was appointed tieasurer, and it was decided to bank at the Union Bank of Australia. Cheques wiH bo signed by the president and treasurer. The secretary wa> >ntecJ an interim bonus of £10.
