FREE CARRIAGE OF MANURE
Tlie Masterton branch of the Faimer^' I 'll ion has decided to endeavour to becure the free carriage of manure by the Government on the railway-. At the present time large quantities of manurf are being u'-od in thit> neighbourhood on account of the. district being an old-established one. A considerable area of land ib alpo under culti \aticn. It is believed that the department would be hande-omely repaid if they made the conce<*ion by increased return. By tho. use of manure, which would come 1 heapcr, and therefore be used mor» freely, a larger number of fat stock, besides an in creased quantity of produce, would bo raised, and the carriage charge on this would fully lecoup the department for any t-mall sum lo.st by the free carriage of the manure.
