Games.
One of the most important of tlie Mont"- Carlo gnmes, played between Me=srs (j Maroczy (White) and D Janowski (Black). Score and notes from the tVld —
(x) Up to here all that need bo «aid is that Black's attack was premature, and did not cau^e much concern to White, who was v.eM prepared with a valid reply to eveiy a'.tacki'g move Black's powder bein« -pent. and it is doubtful whether White could do more than draw m spite of the pawn ahead. (c) The only attempt to avoid <> draw would be 43 P-B 4, b x kt ; 44 R x B, r x p, eh, and this variation being too dangerous, White preferred the safer course of drawing. It is a fine game, with an instructive ending.
