PALMERSTON STOCK SALES

"Wright, Stephenson, and Co. and Dalgety end Co. (Limited) report as follows — The usual monthly stock sale was held at Pa'.merston on Monday, the 7th inst., when the largest yarding of sheep offered at Palmerston for seme years was submitted. In all 3864 sheep were penned, nearly the whole of which were sold Tinder the hammer. As a whole the quality was by no means first clas6, a very consider- j able portion being comprised of aged ewes and • lambs of a second-rate description. A few ' pens of strong young, but small, vethers weie j offered, and two or three lots of good sound- ! mouthed ewes and lambs, and the good com- I xetition which these commanded showed that Olivers were present for these classes. Medium i •Mid inferior lambs and aged lots wpro exceodj.'igly hlow of sale, but, notwithstanding, "brought prices fully equal to those ruling at hales in other centres. Rams • 'jThose offered comprised Border and Erghsh Leicesterp, Shropshire?, and Romney. The demand was very slack, and a considpiable number failed to find buyers. Prices current w-ere : For sourd fre«h crossbred ewes, 8s to 20s 2d; two-tooth cro*sbrc-d ewes (small). 8s Cd to 9a 2d ; sound-mouthed, in low condition, 4=, 6d to 7s: broken down ewes, 2s to 3s, merinos, Is Cd to 4s. forward and fat twotooth, 10s 6d to 11s 9d; small two-tooth wethers. 8s to £s 6d , best crossbred lambs, 7s 6d to 8s 6d; medium to small, 4s Gd to 6s 3d; ram?. 1 and 2* puineas. Cattle The yarding was mostly made up of yearlings and two-veai-old Bteers and he'fers. Th"re wns but a limited demand, although most of the entry changed hands at what may be considered fair \alues.
