THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST CON SUMP TON.
Lively interest continues to be taken in this subject, alike by the public and by the municipal authorities in this city. A few days ago the Town Council discussed for nsarly four hours, a recommendation by the Public Health Committee of the council that compulsory notification of cases of consumption should be adopted. Eventually it was resolve.l by 20 votes to 10 tha.t notification of such cases should be \oluutary. The committee also recommended the provision of hosuit-.il accommodation up to 100 bt v cLs for patients in the later .stapes of the disease. The newspapers print letters almost daily complaining of the prevalence of spitting in the ttreeis and in railway carriage? Tha writers aver that Edinburgh is much worse than other places in le-pect to this disgusting practice.
