NOTES BT FULL BACK. J. Lewis (Jock), the dusky forward of Union First Fifteen three or four seasons back, has returned t. Dunedin after a sojourn of two Ox three years in Queensland. Lewis was thought so nrach of as a footballer on the other side that he was chosen to represent Queensland against the English team. "Jock" has returned to hi native town the picture of health, and kicking the beam at 14st. He intends playing for his old club when the season commences. He will be truly welcome. Another ex-member of the Union, a Southland "rep.," and a returned contingenter, is Jack Logan, who intends playing for the Maroons this coming season. Charlie Jenkins, who for a number of s°a6ons played forward in the Union First Fifteen, and who has been in Glasgow (Scotland) for a year or two, where he received an appointment as one of the sanitary inspectors of the City of Glasgow, returned to Dunedin a few weeks ago, and has been putting in a quiet time with his old friends. He left for Wellington by the Talune on Thursday last. Playing for Edinburgh University against West of Scotland recently, ex-Otago "rep." Nolan Fell scored two tfieg ( T.k§"We3t"
were pimply crushed, 36 points being put up by the 'Varsity team against 3 scored by West of Scotland.
W. Ritchie, the young New Zealand footballer at present studyiug in England, is to ho given a show as three-quarterback for Cambridge in the coming inter-'v?rsity tussle.

Timms, now playing for Birkenhead Park, On Saturday- the University accomplished a very rare feat by beating the Scottish champions by 12 points to love, this being the first reverse sustained by the Acpdemics at the instance of a Caledonian team for two years. The match really went all one way, for after the first 20 minutes the students outplayed their opposition at all parts of the game. The victory was as pronounced as it was well deserved, thougli it proved that the Academicals are by nc means the side they were last season.
