Mr and Mrs W. A. Mooie went north to Auckland la^t week, en loute to Sydney. They w ill be absent from Dunedin for a few weeks' time.
Mr C. Thomas, of the Bank of Xew Zealand, has gone to 'Fiji for three months" time. Mis Thomas and her chilchen 'uc at present staying at Onslow House.
j.'h third and la*t of the Cinderella dances will be held on Friday, the 20th iu.st., in the Victoria Hall.
A sale of work will be held on Thuisday, the 19th hist, at the residence ot Mrs (4. L. Denniston, in Lee. c street, in aid of the schools for the Maoii girls. Theie will be a large number of beautiful and aitistic objects for sale and it is hoped there vs ill be an equally large attendance of buyers.
Last Wednesday evening the Liedeitafel held their fifty-fifth concert in the Choial Hall, when, as usual, there was a large and appreciative audience. One item of particular interest was an impromptu pianoforte solo by Herr Benno Scherek, who »vas the original conductor of this society. Heir Sclierek giaciously acknowledged the vociferous opplause by playing a second time. Miss Lilian Slmnd was the lady vocalist for the evening, and rendered ''The spring has come " and Clut^am's ''Aye "Maria very sweetly. Miss Shand 'ooked extremely well, gowned in 'limsou velvet with transparent yoke, and sleeves of cream lace. The engagement has been announced oi Dr Daisy Platts to Mr J. Mills, of Name's Court, Wellington. The engagement is announced ,iUc <n Wellington of Mr Arthur Duncan to Miss Alice Johnston, daughter of the Hon. C. J Johnston.
