WELCOMED HOME.
The Port Chalmers Patriotic Committee entertained some eight oi" nine of the men detained in Port Chalmers at a smoke concert on Saturday evening, Mr De Maus, chairman of the committee, presiding. Songs and recitations were given, the troopers themselves contributing in no small degree towards the entertainment. In fact, as thp chairman said in the course cf some brief remarks, instead of the residents of Port entertaining they had been themselves entertained. The evening was spent very agreeably, and all present seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Our Gore correspondent telegraphs: — " On Saturday evening a concert was held in the Gore Town Ball in honour of 14 troopers of the fourth contingent. The hall vas densely packed, many people being unable to obtain admission, and the proceeding's were marked with great enthusiasm. The leturned troopers, with the exception of three who were not present, were presented with suitably-inscribed medals as a memento of their association with the war. Mr M'Nab, M.H.R., made the presentation, the othei speakers being the Mayor {Mr A. Mac Gibbon), Mr T. Green, and Dr Copland. The festivities in honour of the returned men will conclude on Monday night, when a social will be held in their honour."
