They aie engaged at Feeding this week, also at the Hutt The three-year-old nlly Stepma, by Stepmak — Glauvina, by Apremont — Miss Rawdon, is now an innipte of Shearsby's stable at the Hutt. Stepina recently arrived from the South, and was entered at Feilding, but did not nccept. Having won an open race at the Maniototo meeting, she was not eligible for hack events at the Hutt. Unlike most of the Stepmak family, she is bay in colour, and a good sort of filly. Other bays are Menschikoff and Ostiak's yearling brother.

Kohunui can still compete in hack flat races, although he has won £150 in hack hurdle events. He is engaged in hack welter events at the Wairarapa and Wellington meetings.

Forest Oak, Mackintosh, pnd Rebounding Lock were entered for the w elhngton meeting, but their entries came to hand too late to be received.

Fashion went to Fcilding in charge of A. Shearsby, and T. Wilson will ride him m the Cup there. Mr Baldwin informs me he eipects tlie colt to run well.

In the appeal case R. Paterson v. the Canterbury Jockey Club, the Chief Justice held that the trustees of the racecourse, in failing to make regulations for the admission of the public to the grounds, had committed a breach of their trust, but that the appellant was not entitled to challenge the club's right to refuse him admission. The appeal should be dismissed with costs. Mr Justice Williams was of opinion that when races are being run the pubke have a right to hive free and umestricted access to a racecourse, subject to the power in the case of the trustees to impose conditions and prescribe fees of admission. Though he agreed that the trustees had not fulfilled the conditions of the trust, he still held that the appellant had a right to go on the course. In his opinion the appeal should be allowed. Mr Justice Conolly held that the question was whether the land, at the time of the alleged trespass, was a public racecourse, subject to such regulations as should have been made by the trustees. He held that it was, and that appellant had not brought himself within reach of the -club's resolution if he made bets. The appeal should be allowed. Mr Justice Edwards also held that appellant had right of access in the same way as the public, and upheld appeal. Mr Justice Cooper concurred with the opinion of the Chief Justice. By a majority of the court the appeal was allowed, with costs on the midcUe sce'e both in Court ci Appeal "lid the court below, and allowance for second counsel.

The course committee of the Wellington Racing Club, accompanied by Mr J. F. Clark (secretary), visited the Hiitt Park on Wednesday last. The training tracks and inipro\eraents are in first-rate order. The filUug-in of the new grass track is almost completed, and it will be fenced and top-dressed immediately after the autumn meeting. One necessary matter the stewards decided upon was the erection of discs at the different distances on the training track.

Ngaparu, Indian Shot, and Sedgebrook were entered for the Pacific Handicap, for two and three-year-olds, at the Hurt, for which event they are not eligible.

Mr J. Taylor (stweard), and iir Ted Lewis (secretary), of the Palnatua Racing Club, were in town to-day, and will be present at Tauheremkau on Monday, also Mr J. F. Clirk, secretary of the Wellington Racing Club. This will ba Mr Clark's first appearance it a meeting in this island.
