1.0. G.T. GRAND LODGE

A session of the New Zealand Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Good Templars was held on Friday e\ening in the Hope of Dunedin Lodge Room, Rattray street, Bro. D. C. Cameron (special deputy of the International Supreme Lodge) acting' as G.C.T. ; Bro. Campbell (Port Chalmers), G. Councillor ; Sis. Cameron, G.5.1.T. ; Sis. Thorn, G.N.T. : Bro. Dalton, G.M. ; Sis. Clark, G.C.; Bro. Innes, P.G.C.T. ; Bro. Thorn, G.T. ; Bro. Barnett. G.G. ; Bro. Scoullar, G.S. ; Sis. Bowie, G.D.M. Credentials from 11 members of the Alliance Lodge, six of the Pioneer, six of the Hope of Dunedin, two Hope of Caversham, two 6tar of Freedom, two All Nations (Port Chalmers), one Kaitangata, two welcome All (Woodside), one Our Mountain Home (Denniston), owe Waihemo, six Lily of the Valley, one Evergreen, and one Blue Mountain Lodge (Tapahui) were received. The whole' 4-2 candidates being in attendance, they were initiated in an impressive manner into the Grand Lodge degree. Bro. Cameron during the course of an interesting address on the progress of the order welcomed the candidates, and especially the old veteran, Bro. Bereforcl, who had just taken the degree, and was over 92 years of age. He also welcomed the representatives from Denniston, Tapamii, and Woodside. Bro. J. T. Burrell (ex-Mayor of Tapanui) and Bro. Finlay (Woodside) replied, and also gave most encouraging addresses. A vote of thanks was accorded the Hope of Dunedin Lodge for their lodge room, and to which Bro. Cormack replied. The Grand Lodge was closed, to meet in Nelson on Easter Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock.

The Southland Horticultural Society have chosen Messrs C. Longuet and J. Findlay as their representatives at the conference of horticulturists, viticulturists, pomologists, and entomologists to be held in Dunedin on June 26. The society have also decided to send a collection of fruit to demonstrate the capabilities of Southland in this connection.
