The stewards declared the course fit, and the race came off. Levanter finished fourth for the Grand National. His rider mistook a fence in, the blinding snowstorm raging while the race was run. Nine horses fell, and nine finished. The betting at the start was 6 to 1 against Levanter. Grudon, the winner, ran unplaced in last year's Grand National. He h«s, however, won ftozn" i.zjior events. to the ex-New Zealander Levanter, said — " Ot those weighted under 10.0, Levanter 9.10 is by many considered to have a fair chance — an opinion in which I would concur ii Ma.jor Edwards could manage to make the New Zealander jump quicker." When the last mail left Home Covert Hack, Levanter, and Drumeree were the favourites, but neither Grudon nor Buffalo Bill appeared m the quotations.
