NEW ZEALAND RIFL E ASSOCIATION MEETING.
THE CHAMPION RIFLE SHOT. WOODVILLE, April 1. Nelson, the chumpion rifle shot, and the other members of the Woodville Rifle Club had an enthusiastic reception on Saturday on their return from Wanganui. On arrival of the train, after hearty congratulations, the champion was carred shoulderhigh to a carriage, after which a procession was formed, consisting of the band, volunteers, mounted iifk-s, ths tairiage containing the shooting men (which was drawn by a number of enthusiasts), and several hundred people. All the streets were paraded, they being beautifully Lt un with Chinese lanterns most of the way, and flags were displayed on the prominent buildings. A halt was made in front of the Borough Chambers, where congratulatoiy speeches were delivered by the mayor and others. It being Saturday night, business could only be suspended for a short time, but the victorious riflemen will be entertained at a social on Wednesday night. TIMARU. April 1. The Timaru Port Guards nfle team returned from Wanganui this evening, and were welcomed at th? station by the mayor and a cheering crowd, the Battalion Band, and a. muster of the team's comrades. The latter drew the team in a waggonette through the town to the diillshcd, where a supper and social were held in their honour. .
